BORROWED IONIC VOCABULARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: MAIN CHARACTERISTICS AND DYNAMICS OF APPEARANCE

The article is devoted to the study of main sources and time of appearance of borrowed iconic words in the English language. The research includes a comparative analysis of borrowed and native iconic words in different time periods. The earlier proposed classification of iconic vocabulary according to the degrees of de-iconization (loss of iconic traits) is applied to the borrowed segment of the sound iconic word corpus of the English language.
