Multilayer force-balanced coil of real thickness

The generation of strong magnetic fields is a difficult scientific and technical task – mechanical stresses occur in the body of the solenoid, which can destroy it. The present work is devoted to the development of provisions on quasi-force-free magnetic systems in which the acting electromagnetic forces can be reduced due to the parallelism of the magnetic field flux density and current density vectors. A method for selecting the parameters of the magnet winding is proposed, implying the balancing of each coil layer. The current distribution over the winding is taken into account, due to the actual, rather than infinitesimal, thickness of the winding. The results are confirmed by axisymmetric and three-dimensional modeling of the winding.
