Comparison of basic voltage inverter control strategies

Explores the main control algorithms for a transistor voltage-gated inverter, each with a different feedback loop design. Five output power stabilization strategies were considered, including pulse-width modulation (PWM) of the inverter input voltage, pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) of the control signals (CS), phase shift of the CS, and symmetrical and asymmetrical PWM of the CS. The second half of the article presents gate-to-source voltage waveforms for the power switches, as well as current and voltage curves across the inverter diagonal. Special attention is given to identifying the advantages and disadvantages of selecting a particular control strategy. The final section of the paper plots the efficiency of the voltage-gated inverter versus the power regulation depth.
