Characteristics of the bottom soil essential for the tasks of acoustic profiling

The paper studies the relationship between the characteristics of the bottom soil that affect the solution of the problem of bottom soil profiling. The physical properties of bottom sediments are considered, the relationship between the wave propagation velocity and the porosity of the layered structure material is determined. A mathematical model is presented for estimating the reflection and transmission coefficients for longitudinal and transverse waves in the layered structure model. The influence of a transverse wave on the shear wave process during bottom soil probing is determined. The reflection coefficients for the layered structure model are calculated and a graphical dependence of the reflection coefficients on the incidence angle of a longitudinal wave is constructed.
