GIS for assessing the impact of road transport on noise pollution in urban territories

The article deals with the creation of a geographic information system (GIS) for assessing the noise pollution of an urban area from road transport under various conditions. The factors that can influence traffic noise are studied. A measurement experiment was planned, and control points were selected and justified taking the following factors into account: traffic level, transport, traffic features, number of lanes, adjacent territory. A measurement experiment was carried out using a noise meter at selected points at different times on the territory of Vasilyevsky Island. All information about the points, including location, noise level readings and conditions, are systematized on the basis of GIS ArcGis Desktop. Two databases were compiled: the Monitor database contains general information and contains control points reflected on the map; the Analys database contains information about dependencies and factors. Based on the data obtained and their analysis, various factors were analyzed and thematic maps were constructed. These maps clearly show the impact of road transport on the pollution of urban areas under various conditions. The created geoinformation system makes it possible to identify the most dangerous areas in order to develop recommendations for preventing the negative effects of noise on the health and life of people and nature.
